Is Your Business a Perfect Fit for Point-of-Sale Systems?

POSable is built for independent businesses that sell at a counter and run 1 to 10 tills. That includes shops, cafés, takeaways, market traders, pop-ups, salons and seasonal businesses. It was designed on the shop floor for real trading conditions: patchy Wi‑Fi, busy queues and quiet off-seasons. The dashboard even includes ready-made product templates for 27 types of business, so you can start with a catalogue close to your own.

Why the right fit matters

A POS that doesn’t match how you trade costs you time every day. You might pay for features you never use, or have to work around ones that are missing. POSable is a strong fit when you want:

  • Fast counter service with barcode scanning and one-tap products
  • Selling that doesn’t stop when the internet drops
  • Stock, staff, loyalty and reports in one affordable system
  • Flexible costs that suit seasonal trading, with no contract

Businesses POSable works well for

Independent retail

Examples: clothing, convenience store, gift shop, card shop, bookshop, electronics, hardware, garden and DIY, pet shop, jewellery, bike shop, art shop and gallery.

Features that matter:

  • Barcode scanning and product variants (sizes, colours)
  • Real-time stock with low-stock alerts, supplier ordering and warehouse goods-in with case barcodes
  • Shelf label printing for quick price changes
  • The Shop Floor web app for stock counts and deliveries on staff phones
  • Loyalty points, tiers and offers to bring customers back

Cafés, takeaways and counter-service food

Examples: café, coffee shop, takeaway, counter-service restaurant, bar.

Features that matter:

  • Kitchen printing. Food orders print straight to the kitchen.
  • Allergen information at the till, helping you meet Natasha’s Law
  • Hot Products and colour-coded categories for fast service
  • Ingredients and recipes with batch production, first-expiry-first-out (FEFO) stock rotation and wastage tracking
  • Health & Safety temperature and cleaning logs
  • Digital menu boards (AI plans)

Table service: POSable is currently a counter-service system and doesn’t include table management. A separate table-service app is planned. See Does POSable support table management or kitchen printing?

Food retail

Examples: butcher, deli, greengrocer, health food and supplements shop, off-licence.

Features that matter:

  • Allergens and FEFO stock rotation
  • Temperature logs for fridges and freezers
  • Supplier ordering with reminders before each supplier’s order cut-off time
  • Batch production for items you make in-house

Hair, beauty and personal services

Examples: hairdresser, barber, beauty salon, spa, nail bar.

Features that matter:

  • Sell services and retail products side by side, such as “Men’s cut” alongside styling products
  • Staff PIN sign-in, so every sale is linked to a staff member for performance reports
  • Staff rotas
  • Loyalty to encourage repeat visits

Appointments: POSable handles payments and sales, not appointment booking. Use it alongside your existing booking system.

Repair and trade counters

Examples: phone and computer repair, bike repair, automotive and parts counters.

Features that matter:

  • Parts stock control and supplier ordering
  • Refunds linked to the original sale
  • Receipts with a scannable barcode for returns
  • Staff attribution on every sale

Markets, pop-ups, events and seasonal businesses

Examples: market stalls, festival and event traders, pop-up shops, and seaside and tourist shops.

Features that matter:

  • Offline-first selling. Keep trading when the venue’s Wi‑Fi or mobile signal drops, and sales sync later.
  • Run on tablets, alongside a card terminal. The myPOS GO 2 has its own 4G data SIM.
  • Add tills for busy periods. Plan 1 covers up to 5 tills, so you can power up extra devices when queues form.
  • Change plan with the seasons, with no contract

Is POSable right for your business?

A great fit if you:

  • Sell at a counter, in person
  • Run 1 to 10 tills from one business account
  • Trade somewhere with unreliable internet, or on the move
  • Want stock, loyalty, staff and reporting without paying extra for add-ons
  • Want to choose your own card provider and avoid long contracts

Not the right fit today if you need:

  • Table service, with table plans and ordering at the table. A separate app is planned, but there’s no timeframe yet.
  • Appointment booking or memberships
  • A built-in online store
  • More than 10 tills in one account, or central management of several sites

If you’re not sure, try it with your own products. It’s free for 15 days, or you can explore the live demo straight away.

Where can POSable be used?

  • UK and EU: card payments with Dojo, Teya or myPOS, depending on the country
  • United States: card payments with Gravity Payments
  • 25 languages and your choice of currency

POSable in practice

  • Clothing shop. Staff scan barcodes on sized and coloured variants, print shelf labels for sale prices, and get low-stock alerts on best-sellers. A loyalty offer during special events brings regulars back.
  • Café. Hot Products speed up the morning rush, food orders print to the kitchen, and allergens show at the till. Staff rotas are managed in the same system.
  • Seasonal gift shop. One till runs through the winter, then four tills in summer on the same Plan 1, so queues stay short and fewer customers walk away. There’s no extra cost and no contract.
  • Market trader. A tablet and a 4G card terminal keep selling when the market’s signal drops. Sales sync to the dashboard once they’re back online.
