Can POSable Deliver Efficient Table Management and Kitchen Printing?

Kitchen printing: yes. Table management: not yet.

POSable prints kitchen tickets automatically. When a sale is completed, the items that need preparing, such as hot food or made-to-order drinks, go straight to your kitchen printer with the order number and the customer’s chosen options.

POSable is built for counter service, so it doesn’t currently include table management features such as floor plans, seat assignments or open table tabs. We’re developing a separate app for table service and table management, but there’s no release date yet.

Who POSable’s kitchen printing is ideal for

Kitchen printing is designed for businesses where customers order and pay at the counter:

  • coffee shops and cafés
  • takeaways and fast food
  • bakeries, delis and sandwich shops
  • food trucks, kiosks and market stalls
  • farm shops and garden centre cafés
  • venues that take orders at the counter and bring food to the table

How kitchen printing works

  1. A customer orders at the till, for example a latte with oat milk, a bacon roll and a bottle of water.
  2. Staff choose the options when prompted, such as the type of milk or size.
  3. The customer pays.
  4. The receipt prints for the customer, and a kitchen ticket prints at the kitchen or coffee station with only the items that need preparing:

The bottled water doesn’t appear because it doesn’t need preparing, so the kitchen only sees what it needs to make. Item names are printed in large, bold text so they’re easy to read from a distance, and the ticket has no prices on it.

Setting up kitchen printing

1. Add a printer profile

In your dashboard, go to API Settings → Printer profiles and click Add printer profile:

  • POS device: the till the printer is connected to
  • Profile name: for example “Kitchen Pass” or “Coffee Bar”
  • Connection type: USB or Bluetooth
  • Print role: choose one of:
    • Kitchen only, for a dedicated kitchen printer
    • Receipt only, for the customer receipt printer
    • Receipt & kitchen, where one printer prints both
  • Sort order and Enabled
  • Printer name or address (optional): a hint to help the till find the right printer

Printer profiles sync to the matching till automatically. On the Windows till you can also add and manage printers from the till itself.

Hardware and Printers settings: receipt auto dismiss On and 10-second option; two active printers listed (USB 10/100 LAN and Thermal Printer) for receipts.

2. Choose which products go to the kitchen

Edit each product that needs preparing, tick Food product, then tick Requires preparation. When these items are sold, the till asks staff for the product’s options and adds the item to the kitchen ticket.

Use Product attributes to set up options such as milk type, size or extras. The chosen options print on the ticket, for example “Latte with Oat milk”.

3. Connect the printer to the till

Pair the Bluetooth printer with the tablet or till, or plug in the USB printer. Then tap Sync Data on the till to download the new printer profile.

4. Test it

Make a test sale that includes a “Requires preparation” item and check that the kitchen ticket prints.

Supported printers

POSable works with ESC/POS thermal receipt printers connected by USB or Bluetooth. You can use:

  • one printer for receipts and kitchen tickets together, which suits small counters, or
  • separate printers: a receipt printer at the till and a kitchen printer in the kitchen or at the coffee station

If you set up more than one kitchen printer for a till, POSable prints to the first available one in your sort order. If that printer isn’t responding, it automatically tries the next one, so a jammed or disconnected printer doesn’t stop orders reaching the kitchen.

Allergen information for food businesses

Products marked as Food product show an allergen indicator on the till. You can record each allergen as Contains, May Contain or Does Not Contain, so staff can answer customer questions at the counter. This also comes through to the kitchen printer clearly marking what products ordered have allergens so prep work can be completed avoiding cross contamination and food/drinks served correctly.

What about table service?

POSable doesn’t currently support:

  • table layouts or floor plans
  • seat or cover assignments
  • open tabs held against a table
  • splitting a bill by seat

A separate table-service and table-management app is being developed. There’s no release date yet, so we’ll announce it on our website and to existing customers when it’s ready.

In the meantime, many venues run “order at the counter, we’ll bring it over” service with POSable. Take the order and payment at the till, the kitchen ticket prints straight away, and staff use the order number or a table marker to deliver the food. If a customer needs a moment, the Hold button parks the order so you can serve the next customer and come back to it.

Frequently asked questions

Not currently. POSable is designed for counter service. A separate table-service app is in development, but there’s no release date yet.

Can POSable print orders to the kitchen?

Yes. Items marked Requires preparation print automatically on a kitchen ticket when the sale is completed, with any allergen warnings.

Which items appear on the POSable kitchen ticket?

Only products marked Requires preparation, with their quantity, chosen options and allergen markers. Items such as bottled drinks or packaged snacks don’t print.

Can I use one printer for receipts and kitchen tickets?

Yes. Set the printer profile’s role to Receipt & kitchen.

What kind of kitchen printer do I need for POSable?

An ESC/POS thermal receipt printer connected to the till by USB or Bluetooth.
