How to set up the Dojo GO MAX for card payments with POSable: an essential guide
by POSable Support Team | October 8, 2026 10:36 am
To take card payments on a Dojo GO MAX with POSable, ask Dojo to turn on Pay at Counter for your account, then enter the API Key POSable issues you and your Dojo Customer ID in API Settings → Payments in the POSable dashboard. Your GO MAX terminals are then assigned to your tills automatically. There’s no cable between the terminal and the till: the till sends each amount to the terminal over the internet. This guide is for owners and managers setting up Dojo card payments.
Important:
POSable works with one card provider at a time, chosen in API Settings → Payments.
Dojo card payments and card refunds need the till to be online. If the internet drops, keep trading with cash and take cards again when you’re back online.
POSable adds no markup to your card fees. Your rates are agreed directly with Dojo.
Why it matters
No double entry. The till sends the exact amount to the GO MAX, so staff never type it twice.
No cables. The terminal and the till talk over the internet, so the GO MAX can sit wherever suits your counter.
Staff see every step. The till shows the payment’s progress until it’s complete, including prompts such as “insert card” or “signature required”.
Refunds from the till. Full and partial card refunds go back to the customer’s card through the terminal, with no need to log in to Dojo.

Step-by-step setup
1. Ask Dojo to turn on Pay at Counter
POSable connects to Dojo through Dojo’s Pay at Counter service. Contact Dojo and ask them to turn on Pay at Counter for your account. Card payments won’t reach your terminal until it’s on.
If you’re new to Dojo, open your account and order your GO MAX directly with Dojo first. Your card rates and terminal terms are agreed with them.
2. Get your API Key and Customer ID
You need two details:
Detail
Where it comes from
API Key
POSable. As your software provider, POSable issues your Dojo API Key. Contact POSable support if you don’t have it yet.
Customer ID
Dojo. This is your Dojo account ID. Ask Dojo for it, for example when they turn on Pay at Counter.
Warning: Treat your API Key like a password. Don’t share it by email or post it anywhere public.
3. Enter your details in POSable
Sign in to the POSable dashboard.
Open API Settings → Payments.
Choose Dojo as your card payment provider.
Enter your API Key and Customer ID, then save.
Note: You can also choose Dojo during Quick Start when you first set up your account. Until Dojo is ready, you can trade with cash.
4. Switch on the GO MAX
Switch on your GO MAX and make sure it’s connected to the internet (Wi‑Fi or its mobile data). New terminals sometimes need a software update first, so let any update finish.
5. Let POSable assign your terminals
You don’t need to pair the GO MAX with a till. POSable assigns terminals to tills automatically:
One terminal and one till: the terminal is assigned to that till.
Several terminals and several tills: each terminal is assigned to whichever till is free, until every terminal is assigned.
Tip: With more than one terminal, take a small test sale on each till to see which terminal picks up the amount. Label the terminal with the till’s name so staff always use the right one.
Moving a terminal to another till: a Dojo terminal must be removed from its current device before it can be assigned to another device. Do this in the dashboard: open App Devices and use the action button to remove the terminal from the device.
6. Take a test payment
On the till, add an item and press Card.
The till shows a payment window that tracks the payment from start to finish.
Tap a card on the GO MAX and wait for the till to show the payment is complete.
Check the sale appears in your dashboard.
Test again after any terminal update.
Taking card payments with Dojo
Add the items to the sale.
Press Card. The amount is sent to the GO MAX.
The customer pays on the terminal.
The till’s payment window shows each stage until the payment completes. If something else is needed, it shows on the till too. For example, if a contactless payment fails, the till tells staff the customer needs to insert their card.
If the card needs a signature, the till shows that a signature is required on the terminal. Follow the prompts on the GO MAX.
Split payments: press Split Payment, enter the cash amount first, and the remaining balance is sent to the GO MAX. See Cash and card payments.
Refunding a Dojo card payment
You can refund from any till, and Dojo supports both full and partial refunds.
On the till, press Recent Orders. Today’s sales are listed, with the last 5 shown first. Use the page controls for older sales, or the calendar button to pick another date.
Or scan the barcode on the customer’s receipt to bring up the sale straight away.
Select the sale and follow the on-screen refund instructions to refund the whole sale or part of it.
A manager authorises the refund with their PIN.
The refund is sent to the GO MAX, and the till shows its progress until it completes.
Split payments are refunded by the method used, up to the amount paid that way. For example, if a £15 sale was paid £10 cash and £5 card, no more than £5 can go back to the card.
Note: Card refunds need the till to be online. See How to refund a sale on the POSable till for stock, loyalty points and more.
Troubleshooting
The amount doesn’t appear on the GO MAX
Check the GO MAX is switched on, charged and connected to the internet.
Check the till is online. Dojo payments can’t be sent while the till is offline.
Check Dojo is the provider selected in API Settings → Payments, and that the API Key and Customer ID are correct.
Check with Dojo that Pay at Counter is turned on for your account.
The payment went to a different terminal
With several terminals, each one is assigned to a free till automatically. Take a test sale on each till to see which terminal it uses, and label them.
To move a terminal to a different till, remove it from its current device first in App Devices (dashboard), using the action button. It can then be assigned to the other device.
The till says a signature is required
Ask the customer to sign as prompted on the GO MAX.
The till asks the customer to insert their card
The contactless attempt didn’t go through. Ask the customer to insert their card and enter their PIN on the GO MAX.

Frequently asked questions
What do I need to use a Dojo terminal with POSable?
A Dojo account with Pay at Counter turned on, a Dojo GO MAX, and an API Key (issued by POSable) and your Customer ID (from Dojo), entered in API Settings → Payments in the POSable dashboard.
Which Dojo card machine works with POSable?
The Dojo GO MAX. Check with POSable support before ordering a different Dojo device.
Do I need to pair the Dojo GO MAX with my till?
No. POSable assigns terminals to tills automatically. With several terminals, each is assigned to whichever till is free, so take a test sale on each till to see which terminal it uses.
Can I take Dojo card payments when the internet is down?
No. The till needs an internet connection to send payments to the Dojo terminal. You can keep taking cash sales offline, and they sync when you reconnect.
Can I refund a Dojo card payment from the POSable till?
Yes, in full or in part, from any till. Press Recent Orders or scan the receipt barcode, select the sale and follow the refund steps. A manager authorises it with their PIN, and the refund goes to the GO MAX.
Does POSable charge a fee on Dojo card payments?
No. POSable adds no markup to card fees. Your rates are agreed directly with Dojo.
